37 Frames

Our Story in Japan, Since 2000

There’s a reason we’re called 37 Frames.

A roll of film gave you 36 frames. Sometimes, there was one more. That extra frame became our name: a little possibility beyond what you expected.

We’re Dee & Tracey. We love planning celebrations, photographing the world and seeing how people live, love and celebrate. Japan has been home since 1997. We founded 37 Frames in 2000, and today our Tokyo studio brings together destination wedding planning, photography and film.

It’s taken us around the world and into the lives of people we would otherwise never have met. Couples bringing different cultures together. Families travelling a very long way to be in the same room. Two people choosing an adventure entirely their own. We never know what’s next, and that’s the joy.

We’ve always loved a good story.

Dee’s background is in journalism; Tracey’s is in visual arts. Curiosity, creativity and a love of people brought us to photography. Weddings gave us all of that at once.

Behind the camera, you see so much of a wedding. The anticipation before anyone arrives. The reunion that matters as much as the ceremony. The small decisions that help everyone relax. We became fascinated by how it all came together, and by what we could help make possible.

Our work grew into two distinct teams. Dee leads planning and production; Tracey leads photography and film. The teams design the day together from the first conversation, considering how it will feel to live and how it will be recorded. Each brings its own craft, with room for the moments nobody could have planned.

Japan is home. We’d love to share it with you.

We understand the pull of this place. The landscapes, the food, the cities, the traditions. The feeling that your celebration could be something you haven’t seen before. After all these years, we still feel it too.

We also know that finding a beautiful place is only the beginning. Some of Japan’s most extraordinary settings have never hosted a wedding. Others have established ways of working, with their own teams and traditions. Language, access, transport and the experience of your guests all need care.

This is where we begin together. What draws you to Japan? Who do you want beside you? What would make the day feel like yours? From there, we explore the places, people and practical arrangements that can bring it to life. We’ll be honest about what a setting allows, and creative about the possibilities.

You might be imagining a celebration with everyone you love, or an elopement for two. We care just as much about either. Choosing the people who will be beside you is a big part of planning a wedding. We hope you can feel how much it means to us to be invited into yours.

Believe. Succeed. Dream. That spirit has been with us throughout our story. There is still so much we want to create, and so much of Japan we want to share.
