They share one umbrella against the red brick warehouses of Hakodate, both in hakama, hers purple beneath a red and white kimono. Hakodate was among the first Japanese ports opened to foreign ships, and kimono engagement photos here set Japan's own dress against the brick of a trading port. The warehouses hold shops and restaurants now; the brick hasn't changed.
