OBSERVATIONS FROM A DOCUMENTARY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

A few observations about lifestyle photos.

YOUR KIDS ARE AMAZING LITTLE HUMANS

Let them be themselves. They are one of kind individuals. They are them. Forcing them to be someone they're not for their photo session, you lose authenticity. You can lose the essence of what makes them 'them'. Don't go for the 'perfect' photo. Go to capture these incredible little individuals. And let them be as unique as they are.

CONCENTRATE ON ENJOYING YOUR FAMILY time together

If you’re thinking about your posture or pose or trying to get the perfect smile from your kids, you will not seem present in your photos. The more genuinely you’re engaging with your family, the real and emotional the photos will turn out. In other words, do your best to try to forget that there’s a photographer present.

REAL IS MORE INTERESTING THAN PERFECT

Finding beautiful, funny or emotional moments in real life is just the best! Don’t feel bad if your kids aren't in the mood to cooperate that day; whatever their mood, it reflects them in so many valuable ways. And that’s ok.

YOU SHOULD BE IN PHOTOS FOR YOUR KIDS

Pictures are something that your kids will cherish when they’re older. You want them to be able to look back on their story, that YOU were a priceless part of.
