Antelope Canyon

One of our favorite places in the world.

Antelope Canyon. June 2004.

Loved this experience. We went to Antelope Canyon long before there was Instagram. And even long before there was a lot of information on the web. This was all word of mouth and guidebooks. It was truly such an adventure trying to work things out. Where to go. What time of day. We had one of the best afternoons of our lives chasing sunbeams up and down those slot canyons. When one disappeared, another took it's place further down the canyon.

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. It includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon (or The Crack), and Lower Antelope Canyon (or The Corkscrew).

The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means 'the place where water runs through rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. These days, they are accessible by guided tour only.

We've always wanted to go back. One day we'll get there.
